We updated our dataset for the topographic map of Canada to the latest version, and processed it all into TrueNorth format over the course of an 18 hour long run. This served the dual purposes of getting the new data into the program, while at the same time stress testing TrueNorth as it loaded and saved 35 gigabytes worth of data. We’re happy to say that while the performance could be better (we’re always working on speeding things up), there are no memory leaks or thread conflicts in the basemap code.
The new data is much more detailed, so it takes a little longer to load and render. This may become an issue at some point, and we’re going to look into ways of breaking up the files into smaller chunks to speed up loading. In the mean time, with new labelling and better contour data, the new maps look amazing.
