One of the main principles we built TrueNorth around was this; we want you to be able to use it with the maps you already own.
We’re not the in the business of making and selling maps. We make a tool that lets you read map data from almost anywhere, including maps you may already have on your own hard drive.
One great source of map data that you might have already invested some time and money in is the maps you use on your Garmin GPS. You can buy maps and charts from Garmin and other map providers, and there are many web sites and forums devoted to providing instructions on how to create maps from free source data for these GPS units. Once you’ve gone to the effort of buying, compiling or downloading already prepared maps, why shouldn’t you be able to use this very same data in TrueNorth?
Well the answer is that you can.
Using the same tools that are used by professionals and hobbyists to create Garmin IMG files that can be loaded on your GPS, TrueNorth can read and convert IMG files into it’s native basemap format. So once you have the data, you’re free to use it.
